Jack is Director of New Media & Innovation at Illinois Public Media at the University of Illinois, where he manages web development and digital media. He began his career in public media as a producer and on-air host, and learned the web while the web was learning itself. He lectures on media preservation and metadata at the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library & Information Science, and online journalism at the College of Media. He is a co-founder of the University of Illinois Center for Multimedia Excellence, and former chair of the Campus Webmasters. He was principal investigator of three American Archive grants focused on preservation of public broadcasting’s historical media collections. Jack prepared for his role as the archivist at Illinois Public Media by way of a degree in jazz performance and reading way too much Marshall McLuhan.
